First, yes the 780 x 780 is one of the best crosses out there, (in MY
opinion, for a lot of reasons, including strong CMV resistance in it's
history), but, as most others here, I don't ever put all my eggs into one
basket, I always plant as diverse as I can. If I grow 4 A.G.'s I want 4
different crosses, each giving me different qualities and potential in
different ways, including crossing with others.
And....this is certainly not last minute, not here in NW Ohio anyway.
Sheesh! Try a MONTH and a half earlier than last year. And that was also 3
weeks earlier than the year before. Earliest direct seeding time here is
around June 1, although I am planning on starting seeds within the next week
this year. I also have to check to see what the deal is on when I can set
plants out, (when the guy that owns the land wants to plow, etc.), it would
be pretty stupid to be stuck with peat pots full of precious A.G.'s with
roots cussing at me because they want to grow out.
(Yes they do talk, especially when you are on a lot of cold medication).
So I hope that answered your concerns.
