RE: shading the fruit

Marc: The general thinking behind shading is that the sun hardens the skin
of the pumpkin making it more prone to cracking as it expands.

Subject: shading the fruit

Hello all,

How important is it to shade the fruit? I know that shading will help the
fruit reach it's potential, but how much will it actually inhibit the fruit
by not shading it? It's probably not easy to judge/speculate, but how about
an educated guess? Did anyone ever not shade and what were the results?
