Re: [leafless, buried vines??]
I just happened across this message, and found it to be an interesting
subject. I may try to experiment with this. Some possibly interesting
conclusions may be found. Without a leaf at a node, will there be the proper
hormones to stimulate root development? Or, would the roots develop from the
hormones present in the vine? The results may give us some insight into the
approximate levels of IAA and relation to cytokinins. I am not an expert in
this area, but do have a little knowledge, and would be interested to have
some more knowledgeable botanists work with me in this endeavor. Anyone else
have some thoughts on this subject?

Beth-perhaps the ideal plant would have just the right total leaf area for

have strong top and bottom roots.Just a guess!--AE
P.S.-perhaps if you were to experiment with one plant you might be able to
form your own conclusions, and it might work but I doubt there is any other
way to find your answer.

Are we close enough now to the growing season to consider this question
again?? Has anyone ever tried this? How about speculation from some of you
botanist-types out there (Roger??? Rick, are you listening??) and from you
long-time thinker/grower types (Al? George? Wayne? Brock? Brett? Jon?
Anybody???)? Would a vine need a few leaves photosynthesizing to keep the
nutrient channel active? Or could a buried vine with no leaves contribute
to growth as long as there is adequate photosynthesis elsewhere??
