Direct Start Update 5/27/00
This is an early update for this month I will have another in the first week
of June with the months weather stat's. But so far we have had 19 out of 27
days with at least 1/2 day of restricted sunshine. The only thing that has
kept this plants going is the plastic lined mounds with soil heating cables.
Mound #1
Eight AG- AG-560-98-GB Frozen Seeds:
This is the seed from the "Living Dead" (1006 x 1006) "Son Of The Living
Dead"..
7 out of 8 seeds germinated. Broke ground in 5-7 days.
Today the largest Leaf is 16" and vine length is 2' 2".
This mound has a smaller (3') heating cable the second mound has a 6' one.
Mound #2: Only one of these plants can stay, that will be a tough decision.
2A: One AG-803.5-AE-99 Seed (Al Eaton's) (946.5 Geerts 96 x 780 Eaton 98)
Broke ground in 4 days. .
Today the largest Leaf is 19" and vine length is 4' 4".
2B: One AG-1092-98-BU Frozen Seed:
Broke ground in 6 days. Pulled, weak growth.
S2C: One AG-756-PG-97 Frozen Seed (Pete Geerts) (567.5 Mombert 92 x 559
Geerts 95)
Broke ground in 6 days.
Today the largest Leaf is 21" and vine length is 4' 10".
All were planted using the Direct Start Method & Compost Feeding Method
Compost preparation: Built 2 Compost Piles one on each side of the Pumpkin
Mound. Started by deep forking in Bradfield Plus, Iron Sulfate, Chicken Pen
Dirt, Cat Chow & Lime in the hole. Layer compost and Chicken Pen Dirt with
Cat Chow & Bradfield Plus in between. Topped off with slightly rotted hay.
Any recommendations on which one should stay in mound #2 are welcome.
