RE: season has begun!

Hi Dewight,
I am also in my "rookie" year with pumpkins and even though I have done a
lot of research over the winter it still seems kind of overwhelming. I live
in Virginia and am getting ready to plant this week. It's a little on the
late side here maybe but the weather just has not cooperated. I hope the
ground dries out enough to let me plant this week. I am not transplanting
though. I soaked my seeds and now have them in moist paper towels in a zip
lock bag to sprout. For some reason I have never had any luck transplanting
anything!
Anyway, I thought it was neat to find another beginner here besides me. Keep
my e-mail addy and let me know how things come along. I will do the same. My
e-mail is MFOWLER@EMAIL.HSC.EDU

GOOD LUCK!!!!!
Mark

Subject: season has begun!

Hello list,
My rookie season as a giant pumpkin grower has begun! I put my four plants
in the patch yesterday,#1 spot has a 859 Mombert #2 has two plants,a 876.5
Lloyd and a 815 Mappes, one of these will have to be culled later on. #3 is a
749 Mombert. These are the four survivors from my first try at this. Those
not making it a 625 Kennedy,a 714.6 Ciliberto,and 624 Rose. Though we have
had quite a bit of rain here in Southern Indiana, the soil in the patch was
much drier than I expected. A shower came as we were finishing up on
transplanting the plants, giving them a nice wet welcoming to thier new home.
Wind protection is provided,a wood frame with plastic sides. Now just have
to get ready for the bugs and heat!YUCK!
