Giant Pumpkins

I am intending to write an article for a religious newspaper, mentioning as
a Proof of God, the nature of fruits and vegetables. I wish to mention
giant pumpkins in my article, but first need you to please help and answer

Are giant pumpkins, commonly and especially grown for contest purposes,
edible?
