Re: Need a little advice

Hey good to hear from you!!
The money jokes are just that jokes I just choose to spend more money on
fishing than on pumpkins. What it actually came down to was at the Elk Grove
seminar I asked everyone with an ear the same question and from Bob Troy to
Pete Glasier the same response was made. The question was "I am digging two
holes 5 ft x 5 ft x 3 feet deep I am backfilling the holes with compost,
manure, and zoo doo very little top soil is going into the whole. Since the
mounds and the surrounding ground will be absolutely totally different in
composition where do I get the soil from to do the soil test?" Answer Well,
Umm, Err take a little from ten different plugs and mound them into the
sample.. This is where I decided that I had best simply do my best this year
and then next year fine tune everything. I mentioned to you when you were
here that I had "hot spots" in the garden some are old pumpkin mounds and
some are areas that I either buried 40 bluefin tuna carcasses or six bails of
hay.. You never know what you will find out there. I guess as Bob And Pete
said till all of the amendments in evenly and then do a soil test that is the
right way I just used a theory that I thought would work and now am paying
for it. This year I needed to pump up the organic matter so added 8 cubic
yards of composted manure, Three cubic yards of zoo doo (that I got legally
this time), three yards of a super mixed compost which was grass,Kelp, leaves
etc. and a partridge and a pear tree.. So this year I will have fun then next
year concentrate on the soil test. ugh and the test Bob says is $48 plus so I
figured at $17 a cubic yard for manure I really couldn't go wrong with
putting my cash into the manure. But your suggestion is well taken NEXT YEAR
FOR SURE.
My head supervisor at the DWP feels that he is some kind of a gift to
everything that grows since he has a list of college degrees as long as my
arm. Well, he heard that I was growing pumpkins so he made an appointment to
talk to me about my hobby. At the end of the conversation he was ready to try
his luck at growing the big one. I went home and thought about it for a while
then decided to have him grow two plants both your seeds one is the 567.4
Wallace X 801.5 Stelts the other 567.4 Wallace X  835 Mcintire. I feel they
will work as excellent ambassadors to bring in another great grower. Thank
you for the seeds and I may be able to grow another one of yours on my
neighbors property so wish us good luck !!!
Take care and stay in touch.....
