Easy question on pollinator plants

What are the disadvantages of self pollination a single generation of
plant? Will the seeds it makes be deficient in some way? what about
the actual pumpkin?
Dear Richard,
According to my limited understanding of the subject, it will do no harm
to the pumpkins and may actually benefit them. Look for the excellent
analysis in the archives written by Vince Zunino.
Where the self-pollinator runs into trouble is with the jack o'lanterns,
which tend to have sickly smirks instead of smiles and a type of
jaundice that turns their rosy cheeks an awful shade of orange.
Good luck with yours!
Kathie
