RE: 1109 Skinner
My initial 1109 went down...the seed was rotted on the inside. I already
suspected that due to the damage it had taken during shipping. I put
another one in Monday, but it too was damaged, so I don't hold high hopes
for it either. I really want to grow that seed! If the unfortunate happens
again, I have a good backup that I planted (along with the first Skinner)
last Thursday...the Wyckoff 747. My other pumpkin plant is the Hester
850.5, which seems to be doing OK as well. Neither has broken the surface
yet, but both have germinated.
To my amazement, all three squash plants I planted on Thursday are already
out of the ground. (Hester 895.5, Wolf 535 and Bailey 300). Is this typical
or did I just get three good Squash plants and three mediocre Pumpkin
plants? (As far as plant vigor)
I only have four spaces (total...2 Pumpkin, 2 Squash) in my patch, so I will
have to decide who makes the final cut. Survival of the fittest!

Gus/List,
The 1109 Skinner is planted in hill #2. It is only a third the size of the
789 Zunino. The 789 has a third true leaf starting and looks to be a good
plant.
Hill #2 is the 656 Bhaskaran in the lead over the 771 Rockwell but not far.
Keep you posted.
