Being Italian helps - most gophers know not to mess around in
an Italian garden.
Yesterday, however, one mysteriously showed up in my front yard
- eating the California poppies... I used an old trick my
Italian grandfather showed me when I was seven years old and
still remember.
Find the hole, insert water hose full blast - have a shovel
handy. heh heh
Stand back - they will pop up out of the ground somewhere you
don't expect, keep your eyes open, and you can have your way
with them.
I remember this like it was yesterday, my grandfather running
like a madman around the garden swinging his shovel at that
poor little wet rodent and then proudly showing me the mangled
corpse....
Geesz, grandpaw - did you have to kill him?
Thirty years later, I started to understand his enthusiasm....
