Randy, I have had very little damage from rabbits. My worst problem is Wood Chucks. If you put a fence up put it a couple feet high and bury about 6 inches.
You will still have problems with Deer. They love new shoots and love new pumpkins even better.
My secret weapon is I take a sprinkler can with dish soap in it and water all of the new leaves and the pumpkins. After I get done, I walk around and sprinkle a little bone meal on all of the areas I have watered.
