For some reason,
it seemed appropriate to plant pumpkins on Mother's day. So, after
cutting a special bouquet of flowers from the garden, a few quick kisses
and a hug for the mother of my children, I went out to play patch mother
to my little pumpkin sprouts.
After seven days, I have 80% germination for my 10 seeds. Unfortunately, one of the seeds playing hooky is my prized 846 Calai - still passed out after 8 days in the sauna.... I'm getting nervous.
The 995 Carter was first to pop up and was so bursting with energy, I had a hard time keeping him in the pot.... Looking a whole lot like the mean green mother from outer space, this one's gonna be hot! The 831 Zunino was next and is just gorgeous - so perfectly symmetrical, it takes your breath away. Not surprising, I guess, with the pumpkin goddesses in it's lineage, and when I planted her I found she has a dragon root.... curled around the bottom of the pot looking desperately for a way out - just like her father's. This one will try to consume the patch in one bite... The 922 Emmons unfurled her graceful wings next and crackles with electricity. Touch the pot and you get a shock. I planted her next to the 831 Zunino using rubber gloves and grounding straps and still tingles went up my spine. There's gonna be some real fireworks in the Yin and Yang Patch this summer... watch out. Just after the Emmons, the 940 Mombert (98) pushed up. This one had a split seed case and I think this damaged the dicots some because they are distorted grotesquely. I call him the hunchback but he can dance the mambo with the best of them. He's out there now, covering the 995 Carter's rear in the Back Against the Wall patch and doing the two step - just happy to be alive. The 1016 Daletas took six days to sprout and the 850 Wallace took seven. Two 831 Zunino's also took seven days. These four are back-up's and they will have an uphill climb to beat out the four heavy hitters already in the patch. I'm trying to trick that damn Calai into sprouting. This morning I threw his sorry ass into the refrigerator - pot and all. I plan to chill him out some and then toss him back in the sauna.... see if I can make him snap out of it. If not, the 995 Carter is just begging for a shot........ vince
