Re: Jealousy Question

If you win with Dad's plant you lose.
If you lose with your plant, you lose
If you win with your plant, you win!

Thus since the only way you can Really win is to use your own plant then I would say there is but one choice, use your plant(s).

Remember it is not who has the biggest plant in May, but who has the biggest pumpkin in October. There is strong evidence that any plant that has grown too big in a pot has no advantage over a smaller plant that is put out at the correct time. I would mention to Dad about letting a plant get too big in a pot and offer him one of your plants so he "isn't working from a disadvantage". (Nothing like a little "mind game" move to keep the competition interesting.)

Subject: Jealousy Question

OK. Let me start by saying I'm hooked with this Giant Pumpkin quest and I blame it on my father. He brought over some Atlantic Giant seeds and we had a family competition. Well he beat me and I thought it would be no big deal, but he rubbed it in my face now since last fall. This year I thought I would get him by researching very hard this winter. I invested in some good stock, like 1062 Rivard, 1061.5 Gliberto, & 871 Wentzell. Like a good son, I told him where to purchase these seeds and he went out and bought at least 5 different types of seeds. Where am I going with this? Well he has a porch that bakes and all his plants are about 12 inches high. My 1061.5 Gliberto never germinated, the 1062 Rivard just came up and stands at a slim 2 inches, and the 871 Wentzell is 4 inches with 1 leaf with another coming. He has offered to give me a plant if I needed it, but he has that damn smile on his face. What should I do? If I take his 12 inch plant, then he will always can say that is his plant and it will never be 100% mine. Or is mine plants OK as they stand. I have the heater and grow lights on them now and the soil temp is about 78 degrees. Please anyone give me some advise what to do.

Jeff
