GPC Color Rule ---Who should have the say?

Group,
The following comments our my personal opinion and not necessarily the opinion of the IPGA.

Just curious is anyone else wondering why if the GPC was going to make a rule change they would not ask the people that matter? That being the pumpkin growers. It is my understanding that a select few at a "select few weigh-off sites" were asked what they thought of the rule. I was not  asked were you? The last time I checked all the weigh-off sites pay the same site fee. So why were all sites not asked?  For a rule change that is so important why was this not at least posted on the newsgroup by the GPC?  I would like to see everyone write the GPC steering committee with your comments on this controversial rule. I have all of the addresses of the committee. Email me privately and I will send them to you. After all in the long run we the pumpkin growers pay the $500.00 site fee to  the GPC. So why shouldn't the majority voice be heard? My private email is j*@rtcol.com if you would like the addresses. You can run all the polls you want. They mean nothing. There already was a poll ran for 6 months on the IPGA website. But,  did the committee consider this information?  Numbers of people writing the committee is what will matter, and if it doesn't that maybe its time for a change!

Thank you

Subject: GPC Color Rule - POLL

Group,
The GPC will be making a color ruling later this week.  What I would like from you ladies and gentlemen is an informal poll on which option you prefer most when it comes to the determination of a pumpkin.  Below I have listed 4 option I know that are being considered by the GPC.  Please Email me directly with your answers.  DO NOT EMAIL YOUR ANSWERS TO THE PUMPKINS@HORT.NET LIST.  My email is Brad2julie@aol.com.  Please keep this simple by choosing from the options below.  This informal poll will conclude Thursday night May 16.  I will call the results of the poll into Hugh Wiberg myself.  This is your chance to be heard. SO VOTE!

Thank you,

Brad Walters
IPGA Site Coordinator

How do you feel the GPC should classify a pumpkin?

A.)  All pumpkins and squash should be in one class. Heaviest one wins.

B.) Anything that is all green is a squash.  Everything else is a pumpkin.

C.) Keep the rule as it is. 75% white to cream to orange is a pumpkin. 25% or more    gray to green is a squash.

D.) Rib Base Color - Using this method, a pumpkin is determined by looking at the creases or ribs of a pumpkin.  In other words you would look under the netting a pumpkin may have to determine its base color.
