Hi, List,
I got way behind on email after I floated my question about pH. Thanks, to
all who shared results, and thanks Al Eaton for the top 10 average you
posted -- 6.93.
Unfortunately for me, it appears that the soil amendment program that I have
embarked on will result in a considerably lower pH for me this year (6-6.5).
My soil analyst assures me that this will be the optimal range for giant
pumpkins...we will see. If it is not the case, then I will be working to
get my pH back up toward 7.0 again next year!
By the way, I think the collated soil test results that Andy Wolf has
organized is a great idea. I will be sending you my results, Andy. Of
course, it would be most interesting if you grouped the results by the
poundage of pumpkin produced in the patch, and also by the time of the year
that the samples are taken. Fall results are not really comparable to
spring results.
I think it would be great if the GPC could "hire" an official GPC soil
analyst, who could become THE expert on giant pumpkin soil conditions and a
star speaker at pumpkin conventions. Wouldn't we all love knowing that our
soil was being analyzed by someone like that?
Thanks again to the list. You guys & gals are great!
God bless,
Chris
