Early Vigor Tells a Story....

The last two years my biggest pumpkin came from the plant showing the most vigor from day one.  I've heard stories that early vigor is not predictive, but then I see a plant like Geneva Electric (my 922 Emmons), and I know that no other plant in the patch has a chance to beat her.

At 3 weeks old, she is twice as tall and has three times the leaf surface area as her brethren in the patch.  Even the diameter of the stem is more than the others.  She is starting to vine now and crouch down for the big race across the patch.  My patch is gonna be way too small to be much of a challenge.

Will all this enthusiasum translate into a bigger pumpkin?  We shall see....

Geneva Electric rules the roost in the Yin and Yang Patch

I set up a web cam seven days ago to watch this one grow.  It can be found at:
http://home.pacbell.net/diana_do/geneva/gecam.htm

In seven days, it's gone from a sprout to a significant statement  and completely fills the view area of my web cam.  Just flip to the first picture to see how much it's grown in seven days - very impressive.

Today I'll have to increase the view area on the web cam to show the race across the patch.  This cam updates daily at about 8 pm pacific time.
