Second Breath
List
Well here is the first Torrance report for the year. Here at my house I
wanted to get a Jump on the season but waited a few weeks after my April 26
start of last year because the weather has been really cold. We were supposed
to get some good weather so I started my 845 Bobier, and 712 Kuhn on May 3rd.
the Bobier has been slow but certain as the weather never got good as
forecasted the 712 had problems from the start. the main root came out fast
and furious and cork screwed along the shell I knew I had problems. had to
figure out how to get the seed coat to grow up and the root to go down. Had
to unburie it twice to get the right angle and it has been stalled in the
first leaf stage since May 9th. the first true leaf was less then 1/4 of and
inch long and never grew but never got worse. Had to decide what to do. went
out to cull it but did not have the heart. Today was the day but yesterday
the leaf doubled in size and then this morning it doubled again. looks like
it wants to play like a prize fighter getting its second breath..
The 790 Daletas is my best plant I started this one on the 5 th of may and
put it in a one gallon pot not like the other two it is my best plant and
looks GREAT !! still with the weather being Cold the last two weeks I am not
seeing great growth but everything is turning around.. one 940 Mombert going
in the ground tomorrow and watch this one catch up to the others !!
The satellite patch is doing great with the 885 Hampton, 895.5 Hester*,
1178 Rivard, 758.5 Kolb, 546 Welty, 598 Sherwood and the Mystery Smith seed
(not telling what this seed is) all by far total stand outs. I have had some
disappointments and some total seprises this year but that is what makes this
so much fun !!!
Weather should be our regular predictable GREAT weather highs in the high
70's and lows in the mid 50's for a week or so and should see some great
growth !!!
take care and hope all of you have a wonderful 2003 season !!!
