This is the time of the year when all giant pumpkin growers are optimistic about growing the BIG one. I am no different.
This year I planted seven plants on May 11th as each plant was just starting their second true leaf. The seeds and their genetics are:
1) 1458 (dmg) Whittier 03 -- 582 Hester 01 x 695 Handy 01 2) 1301.4 Whittier 03 -- 961 Daletas 01 x 908 Whittier 02 3) 1180 Daletas 03 -- 698 Knauss 01 x 846.5 Calai 99 4) 1134 Holland 03 -- 846.5 Calai 99 x 845 UOW Bobier 00 5) 1097.5 Beachy 02 -- 845 UOW Bobier 00 x 723 UOW Bobier 99 (Seed 305) 6) 1064 Sherwood 03 -- 783 Daletas x 782.5 Stucker 02 7) 832.5 Heyne 03 -- 1097.5 Beachy 02 x 1075 Daletas 01
I had wanted to plant my 737 Heyne 03 as it had good genetics, had great shape, and weighed about 16% heavy, but this seed was the only one which did not germinate for me.
My best to you all in growing your personal best this year.
George Heyne Rochester, Mn.
