Re: Montana Planting
John,
There are several growers in Montana. I'm not sure exactly where they are
at. I know they have a weigh-off in Hamilton. Do a search on Bigpumpkins.com
about Montana weigh-offs and I'm sure you will find the local contacts.
Actually as far as starting it is time. My weather is very similar to
yours. I'm 3 hours south of you but your weather puts spring about a week
ahead, at least that is what it looked like when I drove through 3 weeks ago.
Growing in the Mountain West has its special challenges. The cold is the main
one. Not only do we get late frosts in the spring and early frosts in the fall
but we get the cool/cold night time temps. My July low temp averages 44
degrees. Typically I will have one night all summer where the low is above the
magical 60 degrees.
I started my pumpkins 2 weeks ago and planted them outside a week ago. I
try to keep my web page up to date.

Hi,
I used to live in San Jose, CA, and did not have to worry about weather. I
have moved to Montana, Bozeman to be exact, in the southwest part of the
state.
Now weather is crucial.
Are there any growers who live around here or have lived here, who can tell
me if it is still too early to plant. The night temps still are getting into
the upper twenties, but there is no frost.
I have a water wall which people have told me heats the ground very well.
