Dried-up Seeds

I made a donation to a charity last year and received a small bag of seeds
from a 716 pound pumpkin. I stored the seeds in a drawer over the winter and
planted some of the seeds last week in small pots on a heater pad. After a
week, I had nothing growing, so I checked the seeds, found all were squishy,
and tossed them.

THEN I checked the rest of the seeds and found most were dessicated in the
seed case. A couple dozen were not, so I started those.

My question is: Have any of you out there dried seeds and ruined them? I'm
debating whether or not to embarrass the grower of the 716 pound pumpkin by
asking "How did you manage to kill the seeds?" ( Maybe I stored them wrong?)

Thanks all. Hope your sprouting and planting are going well. Temps here in
in northwest Vermont are still flirting with 32 degrees at night. Low 60's
during the day.
