Re: Sprouts

Joe,

1.? If you are past frost...get them out ASAP into the patch!? Keep them protected from the wind!

2.? I like to grow 1 pumpkin per plant...do not do what your friend said.

Subject: Sprouts

This is my first year growing giant pumpkins. I am using the Dill seeds.

I started mine indoors about a week or so ago in normal potting soil. As of
today all 10 seeds have about a 1 1/2" curly sprout coming out that looks
really healthy.

I have a couple questions if anyone can help.

  1. How big should I let them get before transplanting. I feel for my
location I am over any chance of frost.

  2. I have heard to get really big ones that you should snip all but the
most healthy pumpkin off the vine and then snip any new blossoms. A good
friend of mine said that he heard you should then take a vine, cutting off
the blossom at the end and put that in a 5 gallon bucket of water and
nutrient mix and the pumplin will suck it up almost on a daily basis... is
that true??

Thanks
 Joe
