Growers,
I was getting concerned about the cut off in growth in my baby #698 plant so
I took down the cloche and examined up close. Everything looked okay until I
lifted the cotylean(sp?) leaves to see the stem to the ground. There I saw
that the stem from first leaf joint down, even below ground level, was split
lengthwise. It looked like someone took an exacto knife to it. No bugs were
present, and no other reasons for this could be seen. Worried, I hurry took
down the rest of the cloches for closer looks at the rest of my plants. One
of my double planted #627.5's had split, and the previously injured #567.5.
Worst of all, the best plant so far, the single planted #627.5 was begining
to do the same. I rinsed down the stem and sprayed with fungiside and
insecticide and covered with soil all the way up tho the cot. leaves. What
could have caused this? Could the plants be trying to grow too fast?
Needless to say, I started three new seeds an hour later. The #827, and the
#850.5 look just fine thank god.
Take Care and good luck, Brett
