Mosaic Virus

Last year I was struck by some weird type of

few of the uglies got big, but were prone to splitting. <snip>

We were hit with the Mosaic Virus in our gourds. Fortunately our nursery
owner was familiar with it. We used mega doses of Dursban. I am not quite
sure how it worked to keep the virus at bay but it did. We did regular
spraying of this stuff. Because our gourds are not an edible crop, we did
not have to worry about human consumption and the spraying time. In some
places this stuff is not legal but it is here in our state.

We did not have any deformed gourds. Some of the gourds did turn out very
thin shelled.

Because I carry a camera with me in the gourd field, I was able to go back
and look at the pictures and see when the virus started. I have a camera
that puts the date on the picture. I could see when it first set in on the
plants. This year we are prepared and hope to prevent it getting started.

Last year was also our first year of "farming". We live and learn.
