Plant status

My plants seem to be growing fruit which look like a basketballs. 
GGGGOOOOOOOOO SONICCCCsssssssss..............!!!!!!

I have a plant in a one gallon container with the bottom cut out and one
plant
planted in the ground(standard method). The soil is the same and a
heating cable is at the same depth. The plant in the one gallon conainer
which is raised  3 inches above ground 
is a little bit smaller in size than the one planted in the ground. They
are
two feet apart in a hoop house.
