Hello again,
For all of you non-oregon growers, (should be everyone) the weather here has
been great. For mid-May, I can't remember the last time the sun has shined
so much without clouds blocking it. I sure have some high hopes that maybe,
just maybe we westerners have a shot at dethroning the elite east. (Come on
Kirk, grow that 1200 pounder!). Anyway, heres the update:
Site #1 The transplanted #627.5 is doing very well and looks like it will
stay the season. It is a little behind the #827 in terms of size, with a
nice runner starting to form up, litterally straight up. I have heard of a
few others doing this too this year.
Site #2 The #827 is doing great. The main runner has hit ground and heading
in a SW direction. Plant looks very healthy and is gaining ground ever so
slightly on the nontransplanted 627.5.
Site #3 The #850.5 is comming out of its funk. I went out to pluck it
Wednesday, but it had finally decided to throw out a good looking healthy
leaf. Another followed and now its looking good, well, better. I put in a
#500+ Mombert beside it just in case.
Site #4 The, no, THE #627.5. Still out in front of the rest. It has a 3
foot main runner with 2 more on the way. It wil soon be too big for its
little cloche, but oh well, its time to take them down anyway. The main stem
looks like a little tree trunk and I sure can't wait till it pumpkin setting
time.
Squash site, #671 Stellpflug doing good still, a ways behind the pumpkins
now, but thats good in a way. Kohlrobi Wars: growing fine, and all other
veggies are doing great, all except the cabbage, damn slugs.
Take Care all!!! Brett The Pumpkinguru
