Direct Start Update: 5/26/97.

Planted Monday evening 4/14/97.

Temperatures since planting:

Average Maximum: 62
Average Minimum: 40
High: 77
Low: 22


Planted in heated Direct Start Mounds, covered at night with a blanket.  (See
article on Dan’s Pumpkin Page for details.)  All mounds have had their window
top removed a window wall erected around them with a partial top.

Mound #1

AG-553-92-GB (8 frozen seeds) Child of Ray Waterman’s 780.5 Parent of my 93
641 and a 93 630 in NH.

Update 5/26/97:  largest leaf 16", Vine length 28" thinned to 2 plants will
make final selection in 3 weeks,.

Mound #2

Primary: AG-717-91-MM (2 Frozen Seeds) Mike MacDonald parent of many 700+.

Update 5/26/97: largest leaf 16", Vine length 24".  Right now it looks like
this will be my choice for this mound.

Backup : AG-917-96-PNZ (2 Seeds) Zehr 

Update 5/26/97: largest leaf 13", Vine length 18".

Mound #3

Primary: AG-798-95-PNZ (2 Seeds) Zehr related to their World Record??

Update 5/26/97: largest leaf 16", Vine length 21".  This will be my choice
for this mound if it keeps doing well.  I’m selecting this based on some
research I did after the comment from Pumkinguy about the grandparents of big
one produce better than their grandchildren.

Backup #2: AG-846.5-95-LR (1 Frozen Seed) Child Of 567.5 Mombert

Update 5/26/97: largest leaf 15", Vine length 13".

This has been a unusually cool start with low high temperatures but higher
minimum temperatures.  Plants look great but are behind other years so far.
