There is much speculation as to what is the right amount of plant to
produce a giant pumpkin. 500 to 1,000 square feet is a typical figure that
you hear from experienced growers. If Bernard Lavery said that 128 square
feet is as large as a plant needs to be, I would have to respectfully
disagree with him.
