Hole? Did you till your soil? If you did, just dig a standard hole and be sure you do not compress the soil around your hole. Use a board to support your weight and
stand on it while your are planting. If you need a larger board,... like plywood then use it. In past reading, some people have created a soil mound which is higher
than the normal plain of the soil. The mound can be as large as 4'X4'x8". This is suppose to help create a warmer surrounding for the pumpkin.
Yes, but if you add any more, the roots might want to stay right their and not explore any further. If I was a root, and I had some yummy soil, why would I want to go
out to that native soil. So you need to fool your roots and only mix small raito so those roots will explore.
