Seed point up or down?

As a first time grower I have been listening in and reading some pages on the
internet for advice. I am now ready to get started and am wondering if the
"root" end of the seed is the pointed or round end of the seed. The
instructions I read said "root-end down and crown up", but I am not sure which
is which.
