pumpkin flower,
I would get your pumpkins out of those peat pots
asap. I started
my pumpkins about two weeks ago here in Indiana. With this being my first
year, there are some things you just learn as you go no matter how many e-mail
lists and books you read. I also started my seeds in 3 in. peat pots as well.
Luckily I experimented early on before the season actually started. What I
have found from my own observation is that the roots on these pumpkins grow
like rockets from birth. My plants were sending roots through the bottom by
the second day after they germinated. I transplanted mine to my cold frames
by the third day after germination. Next year I plan on using much bigger
pots.
P.S. my plants are doing very well. I recommend soaking your soil in the pots
just before you set them out. This should help the dirt hold together. Then
gently cut away the outside of the pot with a knife or scissors before placing
them in the ground. Please, keep in mind I'm a rookie with AG's but this is
what I did to get out this (root binding) predicament. Godd luck let me know
how it goes.
Brad
