As reported I had a "little" trouble with germination last week or so. I
have more to report..

Three of the six seeds I started in my "death chamber" rooted a short
while after rescuing them and placing them in a tried and true system
for germinating, that being the plate and baggy and paper towel method.
The 697 looked like some sort of roadkill and I had to give it a burial.
Still left was an 815 Andersen and my main seed ( I have only one plant)
the 1006, both of which looked dark, spotty and dead by drowning. I gave
up on the 815 because I had another to work with but the 1006 was the
only one I had and most likely the only one I would ever have. I was
heart broken. Hugh Wiberg had saved that seed for a whole year just for
me! Last Thursday was the 8th day attempting germination with the 1006
with no luck. I was close to burying it along with the 697 but I could
not let go of it. I knew it was a goner but I think I would have tried
to germinate it until next season. I just could not accept this outcome.

I came in Friday morning and peeled back the toweling expecting to see a
dead seed. But a miracle had happened! From this miserable looking seed
was poking out a tiny little root! Oh Heavens above! I brought it home
with me over the weekend and it is now here at work in the hot house
with two starter leaves.

One leaf has a rot hole through it but it still seems to be thriving.
Both the 853 Eaton and the 1006 struggled the most to survive my water
torture and both show some weird curling of the starter leaves. I
suspect my first true leaves will tell the tale for these seedlings but
I think the 1006 has a good chance to come around.

Wiberg says that the season starts when he gets my first crisis call.
Will I make it through the next 6 months?
