Blair,
Sevin is quite effective against the cucumber beetle. Get a Solo backpack
sprayer......the hand pump version is 80 to 100 dollars but is much better
than those little hand pump sprayers. Follow the label for either liquid sevin
or sevin wettable powder. Just give the plant a quick spray, not a drenching.
A quick spray is all that is needed to knock them out. They will be stone dead
in an hour or less. I try not to spray the newest growth...just the stem and
older leaves. It has been my experience that the beetles find the sprayed part
and all end up dead quickly. Keep a very close eye for the beetles come out
quickly and can do alot of damage. If it is getting close to beetle time in
your area and you are going away for the weekend, spray them. Murphy's law
states that as soon as your car goes down the driveway, the beetles come out.
When you come back from your trip, there will be stumps left.
