>We have a local contest here in Spencerville Ontario.
>Where the ___ is Spencerville. Well Just 70 km (or 40 miles) South of
Ottawa Ontario Canada. 10 miles North of Odgersburg NY which is on the St
Lawrence River.

>Our Weighoff is for local growers in the area and we do not have a big
budget. We sell seeds in the spring and give the $ back as prize money at
the Spencerville Fair which is always the First Saturday after Labour Day in
September. This Year Sept 11, 12 & 13. Weighoff is always on Friday am.
>
>This Year we started a Junior's Contest for growers under 12 yrs old. The
Juniors prize is $100. out of our funds or we will be looking for a sponsor
for this prize.
>In order to be in the main contest we insist that the grower purchace a
pack of seeds from us before the end of April (which are sold at local
stores within a 20 mile radius of Spencerville) and therefore she or he is
then registered as a contestant in the contest. We publish the names of
registered contestants in the Fair Book in June.

>The Spencerville Fair is the only Class A Fair in Leeds Grenville Counties
(population roughly 200,000 people). We enjoy the local competition and the
pumpkins get to ride in the Fair Parade on Saturday. They are also on
exhibition during the queen pagent and during the Fair. It is always fun to
speculate which local grower will be the top grower from the area. In the
past we have produced world class champions such as Herman Bax and Barry De
Jong. Although they brought their smaller pumpkins to the Fair that year.
Generally if we have a world class pumpkin it is kept for the big weighoff
in Ottawa. So our local competion is more for the fun of it. We do give out
prizes and Ribbons for the top 10 entries. The grower who sets the record at
the Fair gets to keep the James Utman Memorial Trophy until someone has a
bigger Pumpkin at the Fair.

>We are not really an open to the world Weighoff site as our competion is
more for the local comradery, gossip, and pure fun of it.
