Update here northern Ca......should have planted water chessnuts or
rice.....rain and more rain.......plants are sloooooooooooow.....had a
board fall and crush one of my babies....so this was a good chance to study
the young root system.....noticed that the peat pots really do restrict
some root penetration through the pot .....also noticed root hairs on some
young roots......and it seems as the root gets older the hairs are done or
gone ...........seems that in the past I have noticed the roots pushing out
like the rings in a pond when you drop a pebble .......they push outwards
and the roots sometimes can be seen on the surface........but as the plant
gets older and I pull it up I don't see all these small white
roots......just older tan ones.............so if the root hairs are
responsible for absorbing nutrients as they push out across the
patch...........should you fertilize with a soaker hose and keep moving the
hose outward???????...........waterlogged brock
