Chuck,
If a pumpkin is stillgrowing and it looked like a World Record, I would be
tempted to leave it too. It has been my experience in the Northeast that a
pumpkin that is planted on May 1 is all done by mid Sept. ...that is about
140days. People in the Northwest with cool summers need a little longer but
that can be accomplished with a small greenhouse over the baby plant. The
first week in October is a good all around time to have a weighoff. Killing
frosts hit all of Canada and much of the Northern U.S. by that time. If you
moved the date of the weighoff to the third week of October you would see many
more pumpkins rot out......pumpkins don't hold up well in cold weather.
