Stewart,
The calcium nitrate comes in two forms a water soluble and a granular
form. I used the granular form. My calcium levels in the soil were
O.K. I just wanted to give that a little nudge, this was a good way to
raise my nitrogen though while adding another beneficial element at the
same time. It was recommended by the LaRue's and Joel Holland at a
growers seminar I attended earlier this year. They certainly have good
results so I figured I would give it a try. I may also take a mid
season soil test to see what my levels are at during the growing season.
Everyone seems to get theirs in late winter or early spring but I
haven't heard of anyone testing to see what the results of thier
amendments have gotten them to during the season other than seeing how
thier plants produce. I wonder what I have achieved with the amendments
I made. It may help me fine tune things a little for next year.
