Lew,

1. The number refers to the weight of the pumpkin, the name refers to the
person who grew the pumpkin. When refering to a cross between two pumpkins
the female is always listed first the male second. For example 1006 Greer
(Female) X 1061 Zehr (Male). The female is the actual pumpkin and he male is
the pollen from that plant which was used to pollinate the female.

2. With Atlantic Giants if you bury the vine the plant will produce
additional roots at the leaf axle, the intersection between the vine and
leaf stem. This promotes additional growth as more nutrients and water are
available to the plant.
