RE: pumpkins DIGEST V1 #712

Well done Bill V. I used to work with elderly people and this sort of
thing is the best medicine. I am sure they will get a buzz all summer
and still talk about it in the winter.

I've started a seed in the back garden of a nearby
medium-care facility. (Darn good seed too - a Mettler 865.)

The old folks there are most enthusiastic about the project,
though I'm not sure what actual help they can actually give
apart from the odd watering. I'll check in on it once a
	week, anyway.

But once when the vine starts its rapid growth, and the baby
pumpkins start appearing, I know it's going to give them a
	lot of of enjoyment.

Well we're on our 13th day of rain up here in northern
Minnesota. Have
recieved 10.5 inches and they say 3 more days before a hint of
stopping. Our
high temp has not been above 56 degrees in 14 days. I've been
keeping heat
lamps on in greenhouses to get growing on temps, and gro-lights
for 14 hours
a day since no sun has shown.Ground is so saturated that several
septic
tanks in area have come thru the surface. I hopeing Buddy the
bear isn't
forced up to the surface again to haunt me.Happy Growing

	Paul,

When I first started this habit of growing the monster pumpkin,
my first
seeds were from P&P. I looked at those seeds and read about
those seeds
every day. I was more excited about growing those pumpkins
then...........can't say it, wife behind me. Anyways good
luck.

Remember keep that soil at 80-85 degrees to germinate the seed,
very
important. And remove from heat as soon as seed sprouts.

That was a very kind and thoughtful deed. Imagine how many
flowers and
