Re: Good news from california

Here in Santa Rosa, California the cool weather is a factor this year. I'm
ready for some California heat just like my plants. This Spring is much
cooler than normal. I'm a first time grower so I have nothing to compare my
pumpkin growing efforts to but I have really enjoyed getting started. I
think the community and culture of the growers that exists here on the
internet is a kick. A very controlled and cautious excitement seems to
come through in these early stages. I'm hoping I get to the thrilling part
too, but so far this has been great.

Here in Northern California we have cool dry evenings and the temperatures
drop. We also often have several hours of cool morning fog from the coast.
That same day the temperature might rise 40 degrees or more. Would it be a
good idea to put a heating coil under the one plant I am going to plant and
heat the ground at night? I only have room for one plant so I am taking the
obvious risk but a competition with two other friends for the largest
pumpkin was a challenge to which I just couldn't say no.
