RE: Calcium Nitrate

John,
I've used calcium nitrate the past two years in my patch. I till it in
prior to
planting. How much you use will depend on what your soil test tells you
you nitrogen needs are. Nitrogen was really depleted in my soil so I tilled

in 8 lbs. per 1000 sq. ft. the calcium is essential to the plants as well.
If
calcium is inadequate you can have problems with blossom end rot. That's
probably not a big problem in Ohio with all the limestone thats available,
but
here in the Northwet where calcium is not as common a part of our landscape
it
helps to supplement with it. Thank your friend. You got good stuff.
