Bob,
I've never tried it with pumpkins, but roses are shipped that way
all the time. Just package them so the plant won't dry out. Use
some damp perlite or vermiculite on top of the potting soil and wrap
the roots in plastic. Them pack newspapers around them so the
leaves and stems won't be crushed. Good Luck.
