Hi, Gang!
This question may seem odd, but here goes. Noticed a fine, brown powdery dust
on my sunflower plant's upper leaves. Also, some of the upper leaves appear
to be spotted with brown. These spots actually appear to have a center to
them that's dry and brown, with yellowing toward the distal areas.
No signs of insects but found a tiny spider web with a tinier spider in the
center of the web. The spider looked fuzzy and very small.
At first glance, the leaves are so obviously spotted that it looks as if acid
rain had fallen and caused the leaf damage. Now, I'm wondering if I have a
bug infestation on my sunflowers or a chemical/systemic reaction to fert or
soil contaminants?
Certainly wish I had a microscope so that I could have a better look.
I also wonder if the invader of my sunflowers is wreaking havoc on my pumpkin
plant. I have noticed a few leaves dry up and turn brown. Thought that was
due to a bit of mildew I caused when I left the hose on for two days misting
the plant while I went away for the weekend. Later that week, powdery mildew
was everywhere and it took several sprays to get it in check.
I suspect I have a small, rather inconspicuous insect presence here and I
think a spray of the plants and drench of soil might be in order.
Help?
Barb
