<what i want to know is what do other people do to
control rapid growth late in the season. this is to try to controlsuch
things as blossom end blowout due to a sudden rain>
Ok, now I understand.
Two things I have seen and used. First, do not use a lot of fertilizer late
in the year. It is a calculated risk, and how much depends on how bad you
want the biggest pumpkin rather than any pumpkin.
Second, consider keeping a small second fruit on the plant, a late set, as a
shock absorber.
Others will have many other suggestions, and the real growers will say, "Full
speed ahead and damn the splits!"
Good luck.
