RE: Seeds in the fridge ? ?
Hi Wim,
I had kept my seeds in the refrigerator for several years and now keep them
in a freezer. If stored at a cool temperature they will remain viable for a
longer period of time. They should also be kept dry. I use silica gel
dessicant packages in the large plastic jar I store them in. Pumpkins seeds
do not need to be stored at a cooler temperature to get them to germinate.
It may help with tulip bulbs and some other seeds though. I have had many
seeds germinate right in the pumpkin when it is kept at warm temperatures.
My 506 uow this year only had 19 seeds that didn't germiante right in the
pumpkin as it had developed a blossom end split in September and I didn't
collect my seeds from it until the middle of October. The pumpkin started
to decay inside and as it warmed up from the bacterial activity most of the
seeds germinated.
