1064.5 Needham 2000 EXH
Biggest pumpkin grown in Canada in 2000 but split in mid September while still gaining a solid 10 pounds per day. Very light yellow color. Weighed about 6% heavy.
Grown from the 862.5 Hester* and pollinated with Mombert 940.
Came from 325 ft square plant.
 
901 Needham 2000 - formerly known as the 904.8 Needham which was weighed with the tarp. Self pollinated Checkon 815. Fifth place at the Clarence 2000 weighoff. Limited seeds.
 
734.5 Needham 2000 - 5th at Ottawa.The surprise of the patch - I quit measuring this fruit in August because of the odd beanbag chair shape. Every time I measured it I would get different numbers - anyway never considered this plant as a "top" plant thus never had any supplemental water or fert. Borrowed a hanging scale before Ottawa to try and decide which fruit to take to Ottawa and this one came up the heaviest of the remaining fruit. 9.8% heavy.Came from the 894 Geerts seed and pollinated with Eaton 780.
 
724 Needham 2000 EST - Nicest looking pumpkin I grew this year - was scheduled to go to Ottawa but quit growing in early September and developed a soft spot on it which eventually turned to rot. Grown from McIntyre 835 and pollinated with 357 Needham 1999. This seed should produce some great orange color.
 
660.5 Needham 2000 EXH - was second fruit taken to Ottawa - thought it may be ruled a squash as it was turning a green tinge.
Biggest over the chart fruit of 2000 at plus 11%. Grown from Eaton 780 and pollinated with McIntyre 835.
 
545 Needham 2000 UOW - grown on my Mombert 866 plant that I severely damaged during "pruning experiments".
Great dark orange color and smooth skinned. Crossed with Eaton 780. Another interesting cross with potential.
 
430 Needham 2000 UOW - the darkest orange AG you would ever likely see. Was my second biggest fruit on the first of August but feel that I hampered its development by not getting it shaded soon enough. Got very dark colored early in the year and did not grow that much after that point. I had this fruit at the gate where we sell pumpkins and had at least a dozen people ask if it was fake as it had such great shape and color. Very smooth almost no ribbing.  Grown from the 357 Needham 99 and pollinated with Mombert 866.
This seed should produce awesome color and shape as it was the cross between my two darkest orange fruit. I will be planting this seed as well as the 357 Needham as replacements for Burpee's Prizewinners pumpkins to sell in the fall.
 
I had the luxury of planting some great seeds lines this year and made some crosses on some cull fruit that have potential
 
 
Needham Cull # 1 - 780 Eaton female - 697 Ciliberto pollinator
 
Needham Cull # 2 - 697 Ciliberto female - 625 Kennedy pollinator
 
Needham Cull # 3 - 815 Checkon female - 866 Mombert pollinator - I really like this cross and will be planting a few in 2001. Gotta be some power in this cross.
 
Needham Cull # 4 - 937 Mombert female - 866 Mombert pollinator - great Mombert lines in this cross.
 
Needham Cull # 5 - 357 Needham female - 697 Ciliberto pollinator - should produce great low maintenance plants with good fruit color.
 
Of course if you have seeds to barter - by all means send them along as one can never have too many seeds.
