Anyone want to speculate on what seed will produce the world's first 1000
pound squash?

Speculate ? Sure ! I can do that !!:
900.5Lyons and 616 Corkum are the front runners. It all depends on who jumps
on the bandwagon with squash---we've all seen that a good grower in a good
climate with a good seed can produce VERY LARGE squash.  Look at what Brett
has done recently and what Hebb's been doing for years.800+...900+....1000
isn't far...it all depends on who else jumps in....I was surprised to see
Jack Larue in there this year with a 900lyons....Kirk ?...Al ?...Bill Bobier
?...I say if you put either of these two seeds in the gardens of the 15 top
producers you will have at least one 1000lber next year...it just has to be
planted !
(I think its surprising to note that in ALL of the 800+ squashes in your
AGGC database.....either the 821Stellpflug or the 900Lyons shows up in the
lineage.(and 502.5Ciliberto91)There is also hearsay that the 821Stellpflug
was grown by Willemse in the year he got the 724Willemse....perhaps the
900lyons got its green from an sneaky bee !  )
(also...the 962Hoult draws its lineage from 900lyons and Stellpflug genes...)
(shameless plug: my 455lber=722Holland92 x 502.5Ciliberto91(green)...same
cross as 697Ciliberto(ever hear of that one?)..is likely to produce a greenie
if anyone is
interestd...)................................................Glenn A.
