Re: 1009 pumpkin or Squash??

Glen & Bill...
Dan here with some insight to what was or what should have or could
have been!!! I was there at the Anamosa show..As Glen said...Anamosa has
no restrictions on color FOR LOCAL PRISE MONEY !!! heavest gets top $
and second on down regardless of color....BUT if we have something that
is huge and is FORSURE a squash....then we try and make sure it gets
noted as such...Why it has not showed up as squashes..the 2 that Glen
mentioned....807 Buntrock...and the 823 Edwards.....I don't know??? I
know I mentioned it to and on the forms that were sent to the AGG site
....why it is not recorded that way is nothing to do with me.....
Now another story...the 1009# Scherber....It was looked over by a
few growers....It's like what Bill says...It's a gray area...what is
squash to some is pumpkin to others...Judgement call....It looked
squashy i agree...but enough to throw it that direction..Lots of yellow
bleeding thru the greenish stuff....Using the bBuntrock and the edwards
as a guide...The Scherber was way way more Pumpkin then those ...SPO it
went as a Pumpkin...It was Anamosa Call.... and they made the call..I
would expect all sites have delemas such as this...There are no rules
that governs all sistuations ...so you make a judgement call and move
on....Case close....1009 Scherber....PUMPKIN!!!
Don't base your only judgement on a picture....when viewed in
person....There was lots of yellow...under the green...ssorry if this
offends those who feel it was a squash...HEy we did the best we could
with a tough call.....I'm sure there will always be those monday morning
quarterbacks that SEE things differently!! Later
DAN Carlson
