Pumpkin nuts,
Irradation can be a good thing, increasing the amount of mutations in a
given amount of time. Besides the cross breeding we growers do to allow for
artificial selection, the mutations caused by the irradation can lead to
positive phenotypic traits that crossing genetic material may never do. So
by chance, if we irradate enough seeds, some will have advantageous
mutations, but many will have disadvatageous mutations and many will be
killed.
