you got to think, HMMMMM

 List
Well I am back I was on the Digest for a while and realized I couldn't STAND to not be part of the community !! You all are really great! so I am back full time on the LIST and it is a little trying but I am enjoying all of your e-mails again !!!
I wanted to post a few observations I have made of my plants for this year and see what you all think..

 1. The 986 Hester plant that produced my 758 est pumpkin was a huge plant with giant runner and elephant ear leaves. This is the plant I tried my aeration experiment with. upon excavation The root density and mass within 18 inches of the vertical aeration pipes was "four" times that of the surrounding soil. The soil was also finer and better broken down than surrounding soil so I will call it a success for now !!

2. The 986 did have one ODD abnormality, as I carefully excivated the large trunk i found roots as round as a magic marker just under the soil level BUT as I dusted away the soil to expose the main tap root I was supprised to see NO roots below the four inch point. I then dug through the soil below the trunk to find the decaying main root and there was not one at all. As i looked back to the trunk i realized it was smooth and had not formed a tap root as we commonly think of  with pumpkins weird HUH.

3. The seeds from the 758 est Smith (986 Hester X 723 Bobier) that I test germinated
popped within 32 hours BUT the root that came out of each of the seeds looked like a "CLUB" giant root I mean giant!!! I have these in a pot on my back porch and will grow them till I can decide if it will produce Orange or Green.

Well, that's about it for now I am going out into the patch to do some more work and see if I can find some more interesting things !!! Take care all and tell me what you think !!!
