Re: Shredding leaves

Glenn last year I put down at least 18 inches across the patch. They all broke down quite well by spring there was probably 3-4 inches once the snow melted off in late march but if you till them in once or twice a week until they are gone, you won't see any leaves by mid may. I  add a lawn fertilizer high  in nitrogen this helps the leaves break down faster.By tilling this will also bring up the weeds and expose their seeds. Making it easier too weed in the summer. Hope this helps.
P.S. I have went with 3 feet of leaves across the patch this fall.

Subject: Shredding leaves

Ok...we all know patch prep is a pain in the butt....especially if you dont have a tractor. Whats the best --most economical-- leaf shredder thingy out there? Anyone have a great piece of machinery that they use that was affordable and that they would highly recommend? I've tried the lawnmower....works good but makes a mess. My blower vac works great at shredding leaves but the bag is too small for "production work" and its a pain taking it off and putting it on....etc.I've even tried hooking the blower/vac to a pipe into a garbage can but I cant get it to work right just yet.
Anyone got a "Binford 3000 Shredder " good enough to recommend?........going deaf in Massapequa !.......G
